Everyone’s darling

Imagine a fairy hidden in the flower stalk. Thanks, springtime.

It’s National Poetry Month, and that means poets will be writing a-poem-a-day for #NaPoWriMo, reading new books, and listening to each other sing out verse. Wringing rainbows out of our hearts.

At least, I hope this April will be much lighter than last year’s. I was writing with the Tupelo Press 30/30 Project in April 2020, and what a tough set of poems that was! The work required calm — enough of it to create courage, resolve, and resilience. Poems full of elegiac love and attention.

So, this year, I’m grateful. Poems that grow out of gratitude are blessings: tiny fairies that help us fly. Why else does anyone want to write a poem?

If you want to make… love
